HighwaysGaithersburg is conveniently located along I-270, which connects I-495 (the Washington Beltway) to the south with I-70 to the north. The City is also bisected by Rt. 355, known as Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg, which runs from Washington, D.C. to just beyond Frederick, Maryland. MD Rt. 200 (toll), the InterCounty Connector, links I-270 to the busy I-95 corridor near Laurel, Maryland.

Metrorail/Buses
Metrorail/Metrobus
The Red Line’s Shady Grove Metro Station serves the City of Gaithersburg and northern Montgomery County. A bus transfer station located at the corner of Odend’hal and Lost Knife Roads (adjacent to Lakeforest Mall) provides connections between the Metrobus & Ride On systems.Ride On
County Ride On Buses provide access throughout Montgomery County, with many stops and shelters located in Gaithersburg.
Ride On extRa
Ride On extRa is a limited-stop bus service that runs during the morning and afternoon rush, Monday through Friday, along Route 355 between Lakeforest and the NIH - Medical Center Metro Station. The buses, which come every 10 minutes, feature free WiFi, USB charging ports and information displays. Stops in Gaithersburg include the Lakeforest Transit Center, Summit Avenue and Westland Drive.
Trains/Rail Service
The railroad is an integral part Gaithersburg’s history. It came to town in 1873, and was a catalyst for the community’s growth, both commercially and residentially. At History Park, in Olde Towne Gaithersburg, you’ll find the original (and still used) Train Station, Railroad Shed, which now houses the Gaithersburg Community Museum, Rolling Stock, and interpretive plaques.
There are several railroad crossings in Gaithersburg. The tracks are owned and operated by CSX. Pedestrian and motorist caution is urged in and around the tracks.
MARC Train Service
The MARC Commuter train serves the Gaithersburg area on weekdays with stops at the Gaithersburg Train Station on Summit Avenue, a commuter stop at Metropolitan Grove Road, and a commuter stop in the adjacent community of Washington Grove.
Amtrak
Amtrak Trains depart from Union Station in Washington, D.C. and provide rail service throughout the United States. Access to Union Station is available via Metrorail and via the MARC commuter trains that make several stops in the Gaithersburg area on weekdays.
A parking garage is available at the Summit Avenue stop.
Airports
Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI)
BWI is within a 45-minute drive, easily accessible via Rt. 200, the InterCounty Connector, linking I-270 in Gaithersburg with I-95. Ground transportation to BWI is available via the ICC Shuttle Bus, which picks up at the Park and Ride lot at I-270 and MD 124, and via Amtrak and MARC rail service from Union Station.
Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Dulles is within a 45-minute drive. Access to the airport will be available via the Metrorail Silver Line, which is under construction. Washington Flyer coach service currently runs between the airport and the West Falls Church Metrorail station.
Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA)
Reagan National is within a 45-minute drive and is directly accessible by Metrorail.
Montgomery County Airpark (GAI)
This regional airport, which can accommodate private aircraft with a 4,200 foot runway, is approximately four miles from the center Gaithersburg.
